5 creative ways to get through lockdown

As much of the country enters Lockdown 2.0, here are five fun ideas to help you and your friends through it.

  1. Host a virtual ‘Come Dine with Me’

Having all your mates round for dinner might not be possible right now, but there’s no reason you can’t get creative in your own kitchens. Meet for a sophisticated three-course dinner over a video call and adapt the marking criteria so everyone can take part at home. With points for presentation, originality and entertainment up for grabs, it’s time to see who really is the ‘host with the most’.

  1. Get crafty for Christmas

Still too early to say the C-word? Not in our books. With all this extra time on our hands, why not try out some cool crafts to decorate your accommodation. There’s a bunch of ideas on Pinterest, many of which reuse and recycle things you might already have in the flat. Plus, keep an eye out for the useful Homegrown Hobbies videos coming up on @iQStudents.

  1. Try a new exercise regime

Maybe you love smashing a HIIT workout in your room, you’re already a super-flexible yogi – or, perhaps even the word ‘exercise’ is just too much effort. Mix up your regular routine with a new challenge such as learning a new yoga pose or improving your flexibility with a 30-day challenge. You could even try doing a virtual run with friends by setting up a Strava Club, allowing you to run ‘together’.

  1. Have a pamper evening

It’s time to dim the lights, open your aromatic reed diffuser and treat yourself to spa evening from the comfort of your room. Have a go at making your own homemade face mask or lip scrub with natural ingredients that can be found in your weekly shop. If you’re in need of chilled tunes to set the mood, our Spotify playlist should get you started.

  1. Host a virtual bake-off

There’s no better time to channel your inner Prue Leith and get baking. With banana bread sooo last lockdown, why not try your hand at something a little more intricate. In fact, the Bake Off website has a whole host of recipes including this cute upside-down pineapple cake which is sure to impress those in your bubble.
