Best student cities in the UK

Cities Social life

There are over 75 beautiful cities in the UK and many of them host top-ranking universities.

Besides academic reputation, there are plenty of other reasons you may decide to attend a university in a specific city, such as its nightlife, transportation links or its proximity to other amazing locations.

Whatever your reason, take the time to explore some of the best student cities in the UK outlined here.

How do you decide where to study?

There are many things to keep in mind when deciding where the best student cities in England (and beyond) are. Not all cities are the same, and you may need to prioritise which factors are most important to you.

If you’re focused on studying at a university with the greatest academic repertoire, you should consider their subject ranking and graduate prospects. Some of the highest-ranking academic institutions in the UK include Oxford University, Cambridge University, the University of Manchester and Bristol University.

Of course, academics aren’t the only important thing about your university experience. When choosing the perfect university, ask yourself these questions:

  • How much will it cost to live here?
  • Will I feel safe living in this city?
  • What transportation is available to me?
  • What are the cultural and community opportunities on offer?
  • What support is available for international students?

Feeling safe and happy in your university city is important - it will help you thrive academically and personally. It’s also crucial if you’ve moved away from home, as a proper support network and welcoming community will benefit your wellbeing.
