Bradford is a multicultural city in West Yorkshire known for being one of the curry capitals of Britain... but there's a whole lot more to the place than that. Here's our guide to what you can find near our Bradford base, Arkwright House.



Bierkeller Bradford – 2 minute walk

Stein Bierkeller has authentic Bavarian décor and live oompah band shows. There is free entry until 11pm and 27 different types of beers, as well as cocktails.

Brewhaus – 2 minute walk

Brewhaus is a relaxing drinking den in the heart of Bradford. It has a variety of cask ales and tap beers, as well as elaborate cocktails and daily servings of food. Brewhaus is a great place to go at any time - and it takes no time at all to get there from iQ Arkwright House, which is nice.

Sunbridge Wells – 5 minute walk

Sunbridge Wells is an underground Victorian tunnel development which has turned into the newest city centre attraction. It offers a unique range of pubs, bars, lounges and mini cafés to relax, socialise with friends or get ready for a night out.

Alhambra Theatre – 5 minute walk

The Bradford Alhambra was built in 1913 and named after the “Alhambra” palace in Granada, Spain. It hosts a wide range of shows from opera and musicals to comedy and drama.

Bradford Ice Arena – 5 minute walk

Bradford Ice Arena is a popular location is Bradford due to the variety of activities available. They offer ice skating lessons for beginners, and equipment rental at affordable prices. They also host ice hockey matches and synchronised ice skating shows.

Flares & Reflex – 5 minute walk

Flares & Reflex is the number one party venue in Bradford and due to their free entry all night, it is the go-to club for students. Wednesdays are the most popular student day with music varying from 80s to the latest R&B tunes.

National Science and Media Museum – 10 minute walk

The National Science and Media Museum is a free museum devoted to science and technology. The museum is filled with different rooms to explore, which include a Wonderlab gallery and three rooms with cinema screens.

Cineworld – 10 minute walk

Cineworld Bradford shows the latest international movies in both a 2D and 3D format. Cineworld issues the Unlimited card where you can watch unlimited screenings and also offers a 10% discount for students.

Hollywood Bowl – 15 minute walk

Hollywood Bowl offers modern multi-lane bowling at student friendly prices. With an onsite bar, a games area and arcade, its lively atmosphere is highly popular amongst students.

Food and drink

MyLahore – 2 minute walk

MyLahore offers traditional Asian and British tastes with a modern twist. It is very popular for both eat-in and takeaway, due to their affordable menu and generous portions.

Subway – 2 minute walk

Subway offers everything from breakfast sandwiches to soups and snacks for lunch, and serves halal meat. Just one of a selection of eateries that are conveniently close to the university, and Arkwright House, on Great Horton Road.

[email protected] – 10 minute walk

[email protected] specialises in pan-Asian and English cuisine and has a self-service buffet. Perfect for both lunch and dinner, it offers a 10% student discount and is open from midday until 11pm every day.


Kirkgate – 5 minute walk

Kirkgate is a two-level shopping centre in which you’ll find all your basic shopping needs covered. Primark, Poundland, New Look, that sort of thing.

Supermarkets – 5 minute walk

Arkwright House is just around the corner from a wide variety of supermarkets. Fortune Dragon Oriental Food Store is only a 5-minute walk away, selling lots of ingredients and authentic ready meals. There is also a Tesco Express and All Halal Supermarket, both no further than a 10-minute walk.

The Broadway – 10 minute walk

This is the newest shopping centre located in central Bradford, operated by Westfield. Inside, you’ll find a variety of designer outlets, restaurants and cafes, in case you need a break from shopping.

Forster Square – 15 minute walk

Forster Square is a shopping centre close to the train station which features major high-street stores. It also has many fast food restaurants with delivery options and there are often discounts and offers for students.


Arkwright House is just 2 minutes' walk from the University of Bradford, and Bradford College. We're also 10 minutes from Bradford Interchange, the main transport interchange in Bradford.

Bradford Interchange has trains to different cities and the coast, as well as buses and coaches from operators including megabus and National Express.
