Meet the Team: iQ Grosvenor House, Leicester

Leicester iQ life

Conveniently within walking distance of De Montfort University and the University of Leicester, iQ Grosvenor House is one of our most popular properties. It has all the amenities of the city centre on the doorstep too, as well as the River Soar and Castle Park for when you fancy a change of scene.

So, the location is all good… but who are the team running Grosvenor House? We’re glad you asked…

Pete: Customer Service Adviser

The city of Leicester has numerous bars, pubs and clubs which are less than a few minutes away, as well as numerous parks, restaurants etc. Great city and not too big, so nothing is out of walking distance.

Where is the best place you have travelled to recently, and why?

I have recently travelled to both Croatia and Estonia, very different weather in either of them but both great countries with lots of culture and beautiful scenery.

What’s your best memory of the last year at iQ?

Throwing a successful welcome event - we had many students attend and had a great time.

If you could give your younger self some advice about student life, what would it be?

Ensure you look to gain extra-curricular experience while you are there, as difficult and time-consuming as that may seem.

Sum up the atmosphere at your iQ in one word.

Vibrant.

Rachel: Operations Manager

Hey! I’m Rachel, I’m Operations Manager here at Grosvenor House.

What’s your best memory of the last year at iQ?

I have two.

1. Saying goodbye to the students and hearing about their experiences with us. As I only started in March it was so lovely to hear the amazing things they had to say about the team and how sad they were to leave.

2. Check-in weekend, we had a great weekend and it was one of the first times that I had chance to interact with the students.

What are your favourite places to go in Leicester?

I have two kids, so we spend a lot of time at the Space Centre as one of them wants to be an astronaut when she grows up, and at Bradgate Park because it is an absolutely beautiful place to spend the day no matter the time of year – but mainly because the kids can run around for hours and tire themselves out.

What about your iQ are you most proud of?

My team! They work incredibly hard especially over the summer and have all made me feel so welcome since I started. I really couldn’t ask for more lovely people to work with.

What’s your favourite band/ TV show/ movie?

Band - Foo Fighters

TV show- Big Bang Theory

Movie - London Has Fallen

What’s the best book you’ve read this year?

Can’t Hurt Me by David Goggins.

Where is the best place you have travelled to recently, and why?

I spent a month in Italy, basically eating and drinking. My favourite place was Venice, it truly is a beautiful and mesmerising place.

If you could give your younger self some advice about student life, what would it be?

Life goes too quickly, say yes to all opportunities.

Any interesting facts about yourself?

I am a trained chef, personal trainer and nutritional therapist.

If you could only eat one thing for the rest of your life, what would it be?

Pic’n’mix sweets or doughnuts, without a doubt.

Grosvenor House

Kirsty: Assistant Manager

Hey! I’m Kirsty, I’m the Assistant Manager at Grosvenor House.

What makes your iQ a special place to live?

It’s smack-bang in the city centre, loads to see and do. Leicester is a really multicultural city and this is reflected at Grosvenor, we have all different nationalities living here! Leicester is a friendly and welcoming city - it’s the best one in the Midlands! We also have a weird accent, we like to put ‘ah’ at the end of everything… ‘Lestah’, ‘see ya late-ah!’

What are your favourite places to go in Leicester?

I love Leicester’s selection of amazing Indian restaurants; the Golden Mile has some of the best Indian eateries! I enjoy the beautiful green spaces of Leicestershire - Bradgate Park and the Outwoods to name a few.

The Space Centre is pretty cool, all the shops are great especially some of the quirky individual shops around St Martins and Loseby Lane.

What’s the nicest thing a resident has said to you?

“You are the reason I chose to continue living here. You made me feel really welcome, I am so sad to be leaving!”

Where is the best place you have travelled to recently, and why?

Sorrento, Italy. It is pure bliss – so beautiful, so much to do and see, and the food is yummmm!

What about your iQ are you most proud of?

We work incredibly hard as a team over the summer to make sure rooms look amazing for our residents. We’re incredibly friendly and strive to make sure our residents get the best experience possible living here.

If you could only eat one thing for the rest of your life, what would it be?

Chips, chips and more chips!

Any interesting facts about yourself?

I dance and can teach salsa! I also enjoy practising yoga and hiking.

What’s your best memory of the last year at iQ?

Even though it is a sad time when students leave, it’s lovely to hear from residents that they’ve enjoyed staying here. Getting ‘thank you’ cards and hugs makes me happy to know we have made that resident enjoy their time here.

I even got handmade cushion covers from a student’s mum to say thank you for looking after her daughter – what a lovely gesture! 😊
