If you’ve joined our new iQ SupperClub, you will know that our friends at MOB Kitchen have been busy dreaming up delicious dinners that are both easy to make and great value... and they want you to get trying them.
Today, settle down for a lesson in student cooking you’ll be using for years to come: MOB Kitchen Three Quid Spaghetti. But first, some…
Whether you are starting uni this semester or returning to familiar grounds – freshers’ week is an expensive period. In order to make it through and beyond without breaking the bank, here are few ways you can prepare yourself and your budget.
Whilst these first few weeks can be very busy, it is so important to schedule a meal with your flat mates in the upcoming week. Cooking together is a great way to get to know each other whilst also sharing the costs and the effort. Aim for once a fortnight at least to secure a catch up with your MOB.
A great way to keep up with your social activities without succumbing to the temptation of a meal deal every lunchtime is to prep your food. It can be as simple as a homemade sandwich, or preparing extra dinner the night before, but this is sure to save you from spending all of your money before fresher’s week is up.
It is important to stock up on your basics at the beginning of the year – you can never have enough pasta. Having a constant supply of these items will always save you when you have run out of food in the fridge and come in handy when funds are low. Basics include; spices, pesto, rice, pasta, tinned tomatoes salt, pepper and olive oil.
When your loan first comes in, splash a little more cash on a good quality pan. This can be used for almost any dish and will see you through the year without falling apart.

Once everything is mixed in and the pasta is thick and almost creamy (from the pasta water), remove from the heat. Serve it up with extra chopped parsley leaves on top as a garnish. Enjoy!
