You can never read too many books in your lifetime. Fact. We've got a range of suggestions below for your next top scorer on Goodreads. Many of these have been made into TV series or films, so you can watch the adaptations at your iQ cinema once you’ve read the books!

Romantasy (Romance & Fantasy)

  • Throne of Glass (first of series) by Sarah J. Maas - from the author of A Court of Thorns and Roses (or ACOTAR), this series follows a teenage assassin called Celaena living in a corrupt kingdom
  • The East Wind by Alexandria Warwick - iQ BookClub’s free book of Feb, this standalone romantasy blends the story of Rapunzel with mythology

Romance

  • Heated Rivalry by Rachel Reid - this LGBTQ+ sports romance is about two rival ice hockey players and their relationship that heats up on and off the ice
  • People We Meet on Vacation by Emily Henry - this rom com joins Poppy and Alex friends who vacation together every summer, as friends… 

Mystery

  • The Thursday Murder Club (first of series) by Richard Osman - four retirees come together each week to get to the bottom of unsolved murder cases
  • Missing Sam by Thrity Umrigar - the story of an Indian-American woman who becomes a suspect when her wife goes for a run one day and doesn’t come back

Thriller

  • The Spy Who Came in from the Cold by John Le Carré - a British agent pretends to support East Germany during the Cold War to destroy a high-ranking intelligence agent
  • The Housemaid by Freida McFadden - this thriller is about a woman who starts work as a housemaid for a wealthy yet unstable wife and her charming husband

Dystopian

  • Sunrise on the Reaping by Suzanne Collins - follow the story of Haymitch’s games in the latest Hunger Games prequel
  • Chain-Gang All-Stars by Nana Kwame Adjei-Brenyah - in this dystopian prison system, the incarcerated fight for their freedom 

Sci-fi

  • Frankenstein by Mary Shelley - a timeless story of a scientist who creates a creature from different body parts
  • Project Hail Mary by Andy Weir - follow one man in a small spaceship on a mission to save humanity

Bookshops

Keep a look out on Instagram and TikTok for a World Book Day video this week, sharing bookshop recommendations near iQ buildings. If we haven’t covered your area, just type in ‘bookshop’ on your phone’s maps app to discover what’s near you.

Second-hand

Second-hand books are easy to find online nowadays, often in great condition and cheaper than brand new ones. You can also find a treasure trove of second-hand books in charity shops at affordable prices. Buying second-hand not only saves money; it’s also a great way to Think Green.
