Simple ways to spread kindness for World Kindness Day | iQ Feel Good

Events iQ Feel Good

Being kind to one person has a knock-on effect, making them more likely to be kind to someone else, and them more likely to be kind to someone else, and so on. In other words, even a small act of kindness can have a BIG impact. If that isn’t enough, giving and receiving kindness also makes us feel good

To celebrate World Kindness Day on Thursday 13th November, we’re sharing 9 simple acts of kindness that can help spread good vibes, plus some kindness quotes to really get you feeling inspired.

Acts of Kindness

Hold the door (or lift) open for others

A super easy one to get you started! Wait that couple of extra seconds for whoever’s behind you as you head into the social spaces or the lift.

Share a meal with your flatmates

If you're a keen iQ SupperClub member, cook a meal or bake some sweet treats, then invite your flatmates to share your creation and have a catch-up.

Write down some kind words

Write a card for a friend, family member or lecturer that’s been helping you out. Simply telling them you appreciate them, thanking them for something they’ve done or wishing them a great day is all that’s needed to boost their mood.

Lend a helping hand

Perhaps a classmate missed a lecture or is too busy or stressed to cook one day. If you’ve got time to spare, share your uni notes or make them some food. These small gestures can make a big difference in helping someone feel more relaxed, with one less thing to worry about. Plus, being kind to others can encourage them to show the same kindness in the future.

Give a compliment

Love that person’s hair, think they’re funny or admire their organisational skills? Let them know!

Volunteering

Take things one step further and explore local volunteering opportunities in your area or at uni. You could help at a community garden, serve food at a homeless shelter or work a shift in a charity shop. Some unis even have volunteering societies, a great way to do something positive and meet new mates!

Kindness Rocks

Yes, it does. Also, why not paint some rocks with kind messages or positive pictures and leave them out and about for people to find? Grab some stones from outside (make sure they’re not from a protected area) or buy some online, then paint them and dot them around to bring joy to strangers.

Show your mates you care

Kindness doesn’t always mean going out of your way to do something. It could be as simple as listening to people and being there for them if they need support. You probably already do this anyway, so go you!

Be kind to yourself

Being kind to others is one thing, but it’s important to be kind to yourself too. Taking time to think about what you need can be useful, whether that’s treating yourself after a long day, spending more time with friends or making use of the resources from iQ Feel Good. You deserve it.

Kindness Quotes

  • Kind words can be short and easy to speak, but their echoes are truly endless - Mother Teresa
  • In a gentle way, you can shake the world - Mahatma Gandhi
  • If we’re kind and polite, the world will be right - Paddington Bear

Happy World Kindness Day! We hope you enjoy spreading kindness and remember to give yourself some too! For even more World Kindness Day content, keep an eye on our socials this week.
