Bangor is spectacularly located between Snowdonia and the gorgeous Welsh coast beside the Menai Strait. Picturesque barely begins to describe the university’s surroundings. Set up in response to a local community campaign to create more higher education institutions in Wales, Bangor is now rated top in Wales for teaching excellence.
The university’s main building was originally inside the Penrhyn Arms Hotel, an old coaching inn. Its nickname ‘the college on the hill’ paints a picture of what to expect. With over 11,000 students studying across its five colleges, Bangor has come a long way in its 120 years, with a real global impact. It has a fantastic modern reputation, with Academy Award-winning director Danny Boyle among its alumni.
Our Ty Willis House is located on Bangor’s famous High Street — the longest high street in the country — and is only a 14-minute walk from the university campus. The pier is just 20 minutes away when you’re in the mood for some rousing sea air.
