With over 20,000 people studying at the University of Plymouth alone, the city has a great student scene. The student union is legendary – the likes of Pendulum and Dizzee Rascal have played there in recent years. Their end-of-year summer ball is also massive, with previous artists including Ella Eyre and You Me At Six.

Plymouth’s coastal location has made it influential in the field of marine conservation. It’s home to the Marine Biological Association of the United Kingdom, and its National Marine Aquarium is a key local attraction. The waterfront areas include pretty marinas and the 17th-century Royal Citadel. It’s also a surfing hotspot.
