First day & first impressions at iQ Shoreditch

iQ Shoreditch star lounge

Accommodation Assistant Filip started work at iQ Shoreditch last week. We asked him to introduce himself and share his first impressions of working at our biggest site in London...

"Having previously worked at iQ Kingston, moving to iQ Shoreditch felt as if I were moving to London from a quaint countryside village with a population of about 2. The first thing that changed for me was my morning commute; iQ Shoreditch is located a 30 second walk away from Old Street tube station on the Northern Line. This means that even if I'm running late I still have time to grab a coffee and make it into work on time!

On my first day I was introduced to all the staff who were very welcoming. As you can imagine, a student accommodation building with more than 600 rooms requires a large workforce to ensure everything runs smoothly. This also meant many handshakes and a sore wrist by the end of the day. I was given a tour of the whole building and I was impressed by the amount of social spaces that are available anytime for the students to freely use. There's a movie theatre, dance studio and even a star gazing lounge with views across central London and sights such as the London Eye and the Shard- Western Europe’s tallest building. I was particularly impressed by the study rooms and group study rooms which must be great to revise in, especially when the university library is chaotic during busy exam periods. iQ Shoreditch cannot be compared to standard halls of residence such as the one I lived as a student in Nottingham - it was built with students in mind and it purposefully caters to every need students may have.

The area itself is regarded as one of the most unique and original places to live in London as it is the heart of all things creative and technical. It’s very enviable to be living in an iQ Student Accommodation building in a location such as Shoreditch. The huge variety of bars, clubs, galleries and even the famous new 'cereal café' creates a vibrant atmosphere where you know there is always something to do. And with central London only 5 minutes away you truly can say you are living in the heart of London."

Thanks Filip for sharing your stories from your first day, and welcome to iQ Shoreditch!
