Live with Friends FAQs

Live with Friends FAQs

Do I need to have already booked with iQ to refer friends?

Yes, you will need to have made a booking with us to refer friends, as you will need to give your friends your resident ID number to use when they book.

If your friend has selected to live with you and provided us with your email address, you will be sent an email with your resident ID which you can then use to refer more people.

Who is eligible to refer friends?

Any current iQ resident, or anyone who has made a booking to live with iQ for the forthcoming academic year, is eligible to refer friends.

Do the friends I refer need to live in the same flat as me?

If you are booking as a group, you will need to choose rooms in the same flat. You can still earn referral cashback if you refer friends who want to live elsewhere with iQ – in this case they should make their own bookings separately and enter your resident ID and the referral promo code when booking.

I’m not sure whether my friends want to live with me. What should I do?

You can invite your friends to book rooms in the same flat via our website, and they can accept or decline. You are not committed to finding someone else if they decline. Make sure you give your friends your resident ID number and the valid referral promo code, so you can both benefit from cashback if they book.

How long are rooms reserved for?

The rooms you choose are reserved for 24 hours. If your friends accept your invitation, they have a further 48 hours to complete their booking.

How will I receive cashback?

You will receive your cashback on a pre-paid Visa debit card which you can use at most merchants who accept Visa (some limited acceptance merchants may not accept pre-paid cards). Cards are valid for one year from the date of issue.

When will I receive cashback?

You will receive your cashback card by 31st Dec 2022. You will receive an email confirming your card has been issued and should then receive your card within 7-10 business days

Will there be anyone else living in our chosen flat?

It is possible that some rooms in the flat you select may be occupied by other students. If you contact your chosen iQ site, they will be able to advise you on the current occupancy of a particular flat.

I have already booked with iQ and now I want my friends to join me. Can I do this?

Please contact the iQ site you booked with to see if this is possible.

What happens if I invite someone who has already booked?

They will not be able to book the room you suggested online. If they want to change their existing booking, they will need to contact the iQ site they booked with to make the arrangements. Their deposit would be transferred to the new booking.

My friend has already booked with iQ and now wants to join my group. How does that work?

Your friend will need to contact the iQ site they have booked with to make the arrangements. Their existing booking can be swapped to the same flat if there are rooms available.

I want one type of room and my friend wants another. Is this possible?

Some flats at some of our properties do include a variety of room types. When you come to select the rooms you want, you will be able to see what is available at your chosen site and select accordingly.

One of us wants to change the length of contract. Is this possible?

Please contact the iQ site directly to discuss this. Please note that the room may not be available with another contract length.

Do the friends I invite need to be registered with iQ?

No – but if they’re not registered they will be asked to do so when accepting the invitation.

I created a group, and now someone else wants to join. Can they?

Let your friend know the flat number that you have booked and they can use our standard booking journey to book themselves into any remaining rooms in that flat. Contact the iQ site if you are unsure.

Can I invite extra friends in case some of them decline the invitation?

No, you can only invite one friend per selected room. If one of your friends declines and you wanted someone else to take their place, they would need to book separately using the standard booking process and search for available rooms in your chosen flat.

Will I know if one of the group cancels their booking?

We would only notify the lead booker if their friends accept or decline invitations, not the other members of the group. We would not notify any of the group if someone was to subsequently cancel their booking.

Does accepting an invitation from someone commit me to taking the room?

No, you won’t have reserved the room until you have paid the booking fee.
