University of Glasgow

The University of Glasgow is the fourth-oldest uni in the English-speaking world, founded all the way back in 1451. QS ranked it 65th in the world in 2018 and it was the first UK university to receive its a prestigious 5 Stars Plus accolade. Good University Guide also named it Scotland’s Best University in 2018.

Its different schools and faculties are spread across the city, but the West End is where you’ll find its main Gilmorehill campus. Mixing stunning neo-Gothic architecture across some 100 listed buildings with more modern styles, the campus will be extended by a huge 14 acres over the next decade. Its student union features a range of excellent music and entertainment spaces, sleek modern design and even a billiards hall.

With a student population that’s almost 40% from the west of Scotland, life at the University of Glasgow has a real community feel. Notable alumni include Joseph Lister, Nicola Sturgeon, Emeli Sandé and father of modern economic theory, Adam Smith. Its Young Alumnus of the Year Award celebrates outstanding achievements by graduates from the last 15 years, with previous winners including Mhairi Black — who, when elected at 20 years old, was the youngest MP in the recorded history of UK parliament.

Elgin Place is one of our newest student accommodation residences, located just 10 minutes’ walk from the city centre. It’s within walking distance of the main campus and most other faculties. The building used to house one of the city’s favourite nightclubs and pays homage to its history with a DJ space for residents to use. It also features an onsite gym, a pool table, a creative studio and quiet study spaces.
