University of Leicester

The University of Leicester is a research-led university with an excellent reputation for its work in the field. It famously discovered genetic fingerprinting, and more recently contributed research leading to the discovery of King Richard III's remains in the city. It caters for over 16,000 students, and is consistently ranked among the UK's top 35 universities. It's also ranked in the top 25 universities in the UK for research in the Times Higher Education REF Research Power rankings.

The campus features three tall buildings that dominate the skyline, include the brutalist Charles Wilson Building and the Grade II-listed Engineering Building, which was the first major work by the famous British architect, James Stirling. The site is currently undergoing a vast £300m redevelopment. It also features Europe's biggest academic centre for space research. The university has over 220 student societies, and has its own onsite student newspaper, radio station and television production company.
