Founded by Prince Albert, with the first stone laid by his wife, Queen Victoria, Imperial has a prestigious reputation that remains strong today. In the 200 years since it was founded, it has been regularly named as one of the top 10 universities in the world.
Specialising in technology and practical applications, the university is at the cutting edge of groundbreaking research. It’s no surprise that Imperial’s alumni features 14 Nobel Prize winners, including Sir Alexander Fleming, the discoverer of penicillin. Other notable past students include science fiction author H.G. Wells and Queen guitarist Brian May.
Imperial has a number of sites spread across the city, with the majority of these found in west London. The university’s main campus is in South Kensington, close to London’s museum district and other cultural landmarks, as well as two Royal Parks. A huge new campus with a state-of-the-art innovation hub is being built as part of the massive regeneration project in White City, close to the old BBC building.
Our Hammersmith building is just 20 minutes away from Imperial on the Piccadilly Line and includes a cinema room for cosy film sessions.
