Formed in a merger between the University of North London and London Guildhall University, London Metropolitan has roots that date as far back as 1848. This makes it one of the UK’s oldest educational institutions. Usually known as London Met, notable alumni across the arts and politics include Sadiq Khan, the Mayor of London, and Jeremy Corbyn.
While the university currently has campuses across the City of London and the London Borough of Islington, as well as a museum, archives, libraries and special collections, London Met is working on ambitious plans to unite in a single campus to give students even more of a community feel.
The existing Holloway campus in north London, close to Arsenal football stadium, is home to departments including computing and science. This is where London Met’s ‘Super Lab’ was recently opened, known as one of Europe’s most advanced science-teaching facilities. Art, design and architecture faculties are based in east London, close to the creative hub of Shoreditch.
Our building The Arcade is directly opposite the main campus in Holloway, with our Tufnell House and Highbury buildings both a short walk away. Our Hoxton, Shoreditch, Magenta House and Aldgate buildings are all close to their east London buildings too. Features across these buildings include cinema rooms, games rooms, onsite gyms and laundries, outdoor spaces and bike storage.
