The New College of the Humanities (NCH) is an independent college offering innovative masters courses and a range of undergraduate courses, all modelled on American liberal arts colleges. Accepting its first students in 2012, the institution is the first of its kind in the UK and was founded by the philosopher A. C. Grayling.
Located in the heart of the historic Bloomsbury district, the college uses its own building, The Registry, as well as the University of London's facilities, including Senate House Library. Less than a decade old, it was called "the boldest experiment in higher education in the UK since the UK's first private university" by London's then-mayor.
Promising an education for the thinkers of the future across the whole spectrum of the humanities, students experience more than 13 educational contact hours per week, including lectures as well as frequent one-to-one and small group sessions with tutors. This equates to 40% more contact time than for students in similar universities, and involves receiving in-person feedback on assignments more than twice as often. Despite being a new higher education institution, NCH boasts higher student satisfaction scores than many other London universities.
Our Bloomsbury property is within walking distance of all NCH teaching locations. Our cosy and quirky reading lounge is perfect for fans of the arts, as are the cinema room and social areas, all open 24 hours a day.
