Rated the Top University in the North East for Student Experience in the Good University Guide 2019, Northumbria University has forged a strong reputation since earning university status in 1992. Known for its focus on research and developing students for the world of business, it offers a diverse range of undergraduate and postgraduate courses.
More than a few well-known names have passed through the doors of Northumbria and its previous incarnations. Sting, athletes Victoria Pendleton and Steve Cram, and Jonathan Ive, Apple’s SVP of Design were all educated there. These names give a hint of the breadth of subjects available to study at Northumbria, from sports science and civil engineering to food science and fashion.
In line with its ethos of getting students industry-ready, the university partners with a range of public and private sector organisations. More than 560 employers and 60 professional bodies sponsor or accredit the programmes of Northumbria University. It has also gone international, launching the Northumbria-BINUS Design School in Jakarta, Indonesia, and working with Kaplan to offer Northumbria degrees in Singapore.
Northumbria University is well-served by iQ, with two sites in Newcastle which are both within a 12-minute walk of campus. The closest is Collingwood, opened in 2018, which offers high-quality facilities including an onsite gym, cinema and roof terrace, within easy reach of Newcastle city centre.
