Plymouth University

Plymouth University is a major part of life in the south coast city, with over 20,000 people studying there. Ranked in the top 2% of universities worldwide, it was also named the 3rd best ‘young’ (under 50 years old) university in the UK in the Times Higher Education Top 200 in 2018. In the last five years, it has also won awards from The Guardian for Social & Community Impact and Student Experience.

Its location means that it’s an influential hub for marine studies, and offers several courses in the field as well as contributing to important research in the field. It’s the only post-1992 university to have founded its own medical and dental school. With over £155 million invested in improving its campus over the last 8 years, Plymouth is at the cutting edge of education. At the same time as redeveloping its facilities, it has also won awards for its sustainability efforts.

One of the university’s most acclaimed features is its Peninsula Arts area, which includes the city’s largest contemporary art gallery, The House theatre, the Jill Craigie Cinema and a programme of music, dance and talks. Its award-winning student union also hosts an acclaimed open mic night and has played host to the likes of Frank Turner and Dizzee Rascal. It hosts its own annual Music Week across the campus, featuring free concerts covering a huge range of genres from around the world.
