Birkbeck, University of London

Perhaps the only university to be founded in a central London pub, Birkbeck is known for its unconventional approach to learning. Created with the aim of educating Londoners outside of their usual working hours, it was one of the first colleges to admit women back in 1830. Nearly 200 years since founding, it’s still a leader in radical thinking.

Birkbeck is London’s only specialist provider of evening education.
All of their classes take place from 6pm to 9pm, so you have your days free to work, play or get to know the city. Based in the academic heart of London, it’s a fantastic base to explore from.

The key focus at Birkbeck is giving everyone the chance to fit further education around their lives and to follow their passions and other pursuits at the same time. Alumni range from poet TS Eliot to TV personality Bear Grylls, so you’re in good company whichever course you choose.

Our Bloomsbury building is perfectly located less than 10 minutes’ walk from the Birkbeck campus, with great social spaces, regular events and bike storage.
