UCLan (University of Central Lancashire)

UCLan has always been ahead of the curve in offering degrees for emerging disciplines like Forensic Science and Fashion, with over 400 undergraduate and over 200 postgraduate courses in total. It also recently added undergraduate medicine, creating one of the UK’s most modern medical schools in the process. Aerospace Engineering is another recent addition to its diverse offering.

Its research output is acclaimed, with the UK government recently accrediting all 16 of its assessed subject areas as producing world-leading research. In recent years, its research teams have worked with NASA to capture the highest resolution images ever of the sun’s outer atmosphere, alongside the Department of Health on stroke research, and with the Football Association, the Professional Golfers Association and the International Olympic Committee on sport and exercise science research.

It also has one of the biggest paid undergraduate research internship schemes in the UK, with nearly 450 interns selected over the last decade. Several have won awards for their research along the way, presented in parliament and at international conferences and contributed to research for everything from wind power to smart bandages. The programme provides superb opportunities for training and future employment.

Its £200 million Campus Masterplan programme will transform its facilities over the next five years, bringing with it new green spaces to Preston. It will also feature a new Engineering Innovation Centre and the New Square, which will host events ranging from the Lancashire Science Festival to pop-up cinemas and farmers markets.

Our Kopa building is right next to the uni campus in the middle of town and features a brand-new gym, an onsite shop, laundry, social hub and bike storage.
