We know how much of an important (and difficult!) decision it is to find the perfect accommodation for your son or daughter while they study, so we’ve put together a list of our 5 best tips to help you select student accommodation for them.

1.      Make sure it is safe for your child

There is nothing more important than your child’s safety, especially if this is their first time away from home. At iQ, our residents’ safety is our priority and we offer 24 hours CCTV and security, secure key fob access and fire alarms in every room. On top of this, all our buildings are in popular, central areas; making it safe but close to everything they need.

2.      Check out the property’s location

In order to be able to balance lectures, revision and socialising, it is crucial that your child lives in a central location. All our properties at iQ are close to universities and colleges, and have good transport links. Living in a central location also adds to the residents’ safety, whilst allowing them to have everything that the city has to offer right on their doorstep.

3.      Ensure it offers socialising opportunities

Living within a community that supports and cares for you is essential to having a happy and healthy experience at university. Whether they’ll be able to make friends is a natural worry for many new students, so living in accommodation that encourages socialising can make a huge difference. At iQ we have plenty of social spaces ranging from dining and study rooms, to gyms and cinema rooms, all of which are modern and free to use.

4.      Pick accommodation that facilitates studying

Even though university is made of a lot more than just revision, a degree or qualification is the main goal for students. Their home should therefore support their student routine, encouraging good work ethic and study habits. For this reason, most of our properties have communal study rooms, quiet areas and many more shared spaces which are used for group projects, presentation practice and research. Each of our rooms also have designated study areas to help students achieve the maximum level of productivity when revising.

5.      Go for the one that offers the highest standards of quality

Your child will only have a first university experience, so picking the best quality is essential for them to have their best year yet. Some aspects to look for are cleanliness, modernity and size of rooms, speed of fixing maintenance faults, customer service, amenities and adaptability. iQ provides cleaning services for the communal areas and our properties are maintained through regular refurbishments, so ensure modernity and comfort for our residents.
