What was once a highly industrial city now mixes culture, sport and nature with a huge student population and two great universities. Located on the River Sheaf at the foothills of the Pennines, the hills around its centre give stunning views, and many areas of natural beauty are a short journey away.
What’s more, it’s been cited as possibly Europe’s greenest city, with an estimated 4.5 million trees across the 250 parks, woodlands and gardens that make up 61% of its area. 2016 saw the completion of the £130 million Heart Of The City redevelopment programme, which saw the creation of new public spaces and buildings over the course of some 12 years.
"The hills around Sheffield's centre give stunning views, and many areas of natural beauty are a short journey away"
With over 65,000 places across the University of Sheffield and Sheffield Hallam University, it’s a great city to be a student in. There are many excellent live music venues and nightclubs, two major theatres in the Lyceum and Crucible and a big poetry and spoken word scene across town. There’s also the two football clubs, big shopping centres and entertainment complexes, a huge number of pubs and award-winning curry restaurants.
All of our Sheffield buildings are within a 10-20 minute walk from both universities’ main campuses. Across Brocco, Steel, Century Square and Fenton House you’ll find some striking modern design, a gym, a cinema room, laundries, secure bike storage and study rooms. All include a variety of great social spaces. In 2019, Knight House opens its doors - our fifth property in Sheffield provides a wide choice of brand new accommodation just 5 minutes' walk from Western Bank.
