Meet the Team: iQ Astor House, Plymouth
Every iQ site has its own character, and a big part of that is due to our teams across the country who work around the clock to keep them running.
Lots of our residents have told us how they value their site staff, so we’re going to find out a bit more about them… starting with the good people at our Plymouth site, Astor House – the most south-westerly iQ in the UK.

Hey, it’s Dave!
As one of the Maintenance Technicians at Astor House, Dave keeps everything working as it should – and fixes it when it doesn’t.
What makes Astor House a special place to live?
“We all aim to make living at Astor House like a home away from home. We always try to give the students the best living experience they can get, and one they can remember positively”.
What are your favourite places to go in Plymouth?
“I am a keen sea kayaker and love paddling the coastal and river areas around the Plymouth area. You cannot beat this for relaxing on a nice summer day!”
What’s your best memory of the last year at iQ?
“I was the oldest bull-rider at the leaving party last year. I had one of the longest times but I was sore for days after!”

What about Astor House are you most proud of?
“The compliments we get from parents and students about the friendly nature of the staff and the quality of the accommodation”.
What’s the nicest thing a resident has said to you?
“One of the students this year gave me the nickname Smiler. When I asked her why, she said I always had a smile on my face and looked happy in my work”.
Tell us something we don’t know…
“I spent 20 years working for a well-known chewing gum manufacturer. This has given me the knowledge on how to clean up the odd pieces of gum I find around the site!”
Hey, it’s Luis!
One of Astor House’s Customer Service Advisors, Luis is always around to help our residents and visitors – with almost anything!
What makes Astor House a special place to live?
“As well as the fact that we have amazing rooms, sky lounge, games room, bike and surf store, location… The family feeling is the best. Staff are great, and we always try to help our residents with anything”.
What are you looking forward to this year?
“The leaving party in the summer. It will be sad to see our residents leave but it will be a good send-off for them”.
What’s the nicest thing a resident has said to you?
“You are the Bang Bang(!)”
Quack quack, bang bang.
What are your favourite places to go in Plymouth?
“The Hoe (looking out to the sea), where I can enjoy a great view and take my mind off things”.
What’s your best memory of the last year at iQ?
“The welcome party, seeing the beginning of a new start for our residents. They loved the inflatables and the free food almost as much as me”.

“I am Luis by day, Dipsy by night”.
