Meet the Team: iQ Hayes Wharf, Lincoln

iQ life Lincoln

Down on the waterside in Lincoln, Hayes Wharf enjoys one of our most picturesque locations. It’s the smaller sister to our Pavilions property on the University of Lincoln campus, just across the water – and the beautiful city centre is just a short walk away.

Let’s meet two of our team who keep Hayes Wharf and Pavilions running smoothly.

Hey, it’s Lauren!

I’m Lauren, the Operations Manager at Hayes Wharf and Pavilions.

Shirley

What makes Hayes Wharf a special place to live?

My fantastic team. The love and care they put into these buildings is phenomenal. It’s all a manager could ask for.

What is your favourite place to go in Lincoln?

My partner is a stonemason at Lincoln Cathedral so I’m very lucky that I have an access-all-areas pass. My favourite place is the very top – just not the stairs you have to climb!

What’s your favourite band/ movie/ TV show?

Band has to be Arctic Monkeys, I’ve seen them five times and each time I hear ‘When the Sun Goes Down’ it takes me back to a moment when I was younger and carefree. Favourite film is a guilty pleasure – Dirty Dancing. I also probably watch Friends every day… PIVOT!

Where is the best place you have travelled to recently?

We went to Krakow last year for my partner’s 30th and it’s an amazing place. We also visited Auschwitz and it’s just such an eye-opening experience.

What’s your best memory of the last year at iQ?

So many. We held a restaurant-style Christmas dinner, which went down a treat – I was chief Buck’s Fizz pourer. We also held a street party last year for Harry and Meghan’s wedding where we turned the break room into a British pub serving up cocktails.

If you could give your younger self some advice about student life, what would it be?

The past was never as good as you think it was, live in the present and the future will be more resolved than you think it will!

Sam

Hey, it’s Sam!

I’m Sam, a Customer Service Advisor, and have worked at Hayes Wharf and Pavilions for almost three years.

What’s your best memory of the last year at iQ?

We held a garden party last summer to celebrate the Royal Wedding which was a huge success with our residents and a great day for all involved.

What is your favourite place to go in Lincoln?

Brayford Marina – it’s a waterfront location in the heart of the city full of bars and restaurants. It’s a lovely place to sit and enjoy a meal and a drink.

What about your iQ are you most proud of?

Working with a great team of people who all pull together through the tough bits and have a lot of fun when we have our own social events.

Where is the best place you have travelled to recently?

Barcelona.

If you could give your younger self some advice about student life, what would it be?

Listen when given advice and have the confidence to be yourself.

Any interesting facts about yourself?

I’m a secret karaoke singer.

What’s the nicest thing a resident has said to you?

How friendly I am and how reassuring this is when you are living so far away from home.

Thanks to Lauren and Sam for telling us about themselves and Hayes Wharf.

Look out for the next Meet the Team soon, and find out more about Hayes Wharf here.
