York St John University

With a history of more than 175 years, York St John University is the oldest higher education institution in the city, assuming its current name in 2006. Its award-winning campus in York city centre has seen heavy investment since then, and now offers an impressive range of facilities for learning, sports and recreation, with a new library, biomedical science labs, a 57-acre sports park and a new Students’ Union building among the recent additions.

A population of 6,000 students, including around 500 international students, benefit from the university’s relatively modest size and strong community ethos. YSJU prides itself on inclusivity and was named one of Stonewall’s top 100 most inclusive employers. The University’s LGBT Staff Network was also highly commended. It is one of only two UK universities to receive the Social Enterprise Gold Mark award, an accreditation of business ethics and governance.

Degrees offered at the university cover a diverse range of subjects from Economics and Linguistics to Photography, Politics and Furniture Design. The university has a strong business focus, and the York Business School is based at York St John, offering courses at both undergraduate and postgraduate level. An employability rating of 97% (the percentage of students in full-time employment of further study within six months of graduation), puts York St John in the top 25 UK universities for student success.

Our iQ site, The Brickworks, lies to the north east of York city centre, around 15 minutes’ walk from the York St John University campus. Its spacious common areas provide a venue for relaxing, dining and studying, and there is also free WiFi and an onsite laundry room.
