7 thrifty Valentine’s Day gift ideas to help you #ThinkGreen

Everyone deserves to feel a little love every day of the year, but Valentine’s Day can give us a great reminder to make our special someone feel extra special for one day. Treating your loved one right doesn’t have to mean dropping big cash. There are plenty of ways you can get thrifty and show your love while saving money and the planet.

Go vintage shopping

Go on a hunt for something a little different in some vintage or charity shops. You can find some great gifts with a lot more character than a box of chocolates. Turn it into a date and spend a couple of hours finding outfits for each other to wear on your next date.

Search for secondhand books

If you’ve got a bookworm in your life, head to a secondhand bookshop for a budget-friendly gift that’s sustainable. Again, you can turn it into a date by setting a timer to find one another a new read.

Craft some handmade cards

Show your sentimental side with a handmade card using recycled paper. You could create a collage out of old tickets and postcards you’ve collected together, or stick your favourite polaroid on the front. Just make sure the message inside is one that’s new.

Bake some homemade treats

Show off your skills (or embrace something different) and whip up a batch of homemade cookies, cakes or brownies. To make it a little more #ThinkGreen, use reusable tupperware of wrap them in reusable cloth.

Dig into digital

Gifts don’t have to be physical. You could gift your Valentine an online subscription, e-book or even create a playlist for them on Spotify to let them know what they mean to you. No clutter. Just vibes.

Create a coupon book

A gift that keeps on giving. Create a coupon book out of recycled materials ,with vouchers for things like breakfast in bed, a movie night and whatever make you both feel loved. It’ll feel extra personal – but be prepared to cook even when you don’t want to.

Spend quality time together

Sometimes the most valuable thing to someone can just be spending time with them. You don’t need to do anything fancy – stick on a film, go for a picnic, watch the stars or walk in the park. Do something to make the day memorable without worrying about any waste.
