Royal Northern College of Music

A leading conservatoire, the Royal Northern College of Music in Manchester is the place of study of almost 900 students from more than 60 countries. The college’s alumni have gone on to careers as performers, conductors and composers, and worked in areas such as teaching, research and broadcasting.

All students work within a school, depending on their instrument or area of study – these include schools for keyboard study, strings and wind, brass & percussion, as well as composition and conducting. Courses at RNCM encourage students to develop their musical creativity, with all able to take part in cross-school performance activities, including Chamber Music, Jazz and Historical Performance.

The college’s postgraduate study is also highly rated, with the RNCM ranked second in the UK for student satisfaction with postgraduate programmes in the 2017 Postgraduate Taught Experience Survey. RNCM works on a variety of research projects, some in collaboration with other conservatoires, such as the acclaimed Paris-Manchester 1918 project with the Paris Conservatoire.
